My Nami is calm, cute, charming, and adorable. Nami loves to spend time playing games with me and she is quiet most of the time. But she has quite a good hunting instinct. Nami hunts small prey like small birds, mice, and other insects. She usually eats them as well.

But one day, I saw Nami with a mouse in her mouth. Nami caught the mouse and killed it but she did not eat it. Nami just walks around with the mouse in her mouth. I was like what is going on with my Nami?

Is she ok? I was very concerned about Nami’s behavior. So I visited a vet and asked him, “Why does my cat kill mice but don’t eat them?

Sometimes cats just want to show off their hunting skills. They want to hunt for fun. If your cat caught a mouse but doesn’t eat it then take it away and throw or bury that mouse. Cause mice can contain many bacteria and viruses that can be harmful to your cat as well.

Mice can contain diseases like typhus, hantavirus, plague, toxoplasmosis, lymphocytic choriomeningitis, leptospirosis, and these are very dangerous for cats too. Dead mice contain more dangerous viruses and bacteria. If your cat eats a dead mouse then there is a chance your cat can be affected by one of these diseases and get ill.
